Intra Uterine Insemination

Intrauterine Insemination involves placing "washed" sperm directly into the uterine cavity. This treatment is helpful for both male and female infertility. Since the sperm is placed beyond the cervix, the sperms avoid the cervical mucus. This is important for a woman who has an abnormal post coital test (PCT), Low sperm count or motility, unexplained infertility or anti-sperm antibodies.

Husband can collect semen sample at home if he can bring the sample to the laboratory within 30mins or he can give the sample by masturbation at the clinic in a separate semen collection room.
Donor sperm can also be used for males with Azoospermia.

This procedure can be done in a natural cycle in which the patient does not use any medications, or in combination with oral or injected medications. Follicular monitoring is done till the follicle reaches 18-20mm size. Patient is given an injection to aid ovulation .The patient is advised IUI 36 hours after the injection. Two inseminations may be performed, on two consecutive days, one before and one after ovulation. This procedure is not painful and takes only a few minutes to perform. Afterwards, the patient is asked to lie down for 20 minutes and she can resume normal activity right away.
