Retina Diseases

Retina is part of eye which is directly connected to the brain through optic nerve. Retina gets affected in many diseases like diabetes, blood pressure, etc. Diabetics develop retinopathy. In this, hemorrhages appear in retina. Bleeding occurs in vitreous which is known as vitreous hemorrhage which leads to defective vision. In such cases laser treatment or intravitreal injections or vitrectomy surgery is needed. Now sutureless 23G surgery is available

Retina may get detached in patients who have minus power spectacles(myopes) or in diabetics. In such cases, either scleral buckle or vitrectomy surgery or combination of the 2 is needed. We also do surgery for macular hole. We provide screening & treatment for retinopathy of prematurity. Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is a condition seen in premature low-birth weight infants in whom retina gets involved. If neglected, it can cause retina detachment & irreversible blindness.
